About Brocheva

Brocheva brings together what three generous people have already built for Carnatic music, so you can find a kriti, hear it sung by many artists, and reach its lyrics and notation from one page.

It was made for fun: a way to search across these sources and see them together in one place. It is a consolidation, nothing more. Brocheva adds no recordings, lyrics or notation of its own. Recordings play from YouTube; lyrics and notation open on the sites that wrote them. Every page says where its facts came from.

With thanks to

Raman Arunachalam

Brocheva would not exist without Raman Arunachalam's Carnatic index. Over years he has found, sorted and tagged Carnatic performances on YouTube by raga, song, composer and artist, and shared all of it openly. Every recording, artist and raga tag you see here comes from his work.

Explore his own site, which does far more than this one: ramanarunachalam.github.io · data on GitHub · his Carnatic app for Android. Where his index and another source disagree, Brocheva shows his tags as he made them.

Brocheva uses his data with his kind permission.

karnatik.com

Lyrics, meanings, talas and composers for thousands of kritis. Brocheva matches each song to its karnatik.com page and links there; the words stay on their site. Some matches are missed because the same kriti is spelt many ways, and each song page offers a search when that happens. karnatik.com ↗

Shivkumar Kalyanaraman · shivkumar.org

Notation, lessons and audio for about 400 kritis, carefully written out for learners, along with recordings of old masters. Brocheva links to his pages and never copies them. shivkumar.org ↗

The artists, and the people who upload them

The musicians whose concerts these are, and the rasikas, sabhas and labels who put them on YouTube. Brocheva plays them in YouTube's own player, so views and credit stay with the uploader. Re-uploads of the same performance are shown as one.

Mistakes

With hundreds of thousands of recordings, some tags are wrong: a song filed under the wrong artist or raga, or a lyrics link to the wrong kriti. Brocheva shows Raman's tags as he made them. If something looks wrong, the source site is the place it gets fixed for everyone.
